I love that Tag system and I realize its a great learning tool for the Kindergarten homeschool resume. If you take this set at face value, it is a great way to get 6 tag books for a great value. These are different from regular Tag books in that they are shorter, words are bigger (and can be set to read word-by-word, or sound at a time), and they do have a smaller activity section in the back for a "game".As far as teaching to read, I personally don't like that the focus is on vowels, rather than consonants, first. My almost 4 year old can't focus on learning the middle sounds yet, and the book assumes that consonants are already learned. So, for now, we just use them as books, and hopefully as he gets older, he'll be interested in breaking down the words sound-by-sound.So, overall, if you expect to get a top-notch reading program, you'll be disappointed. BUT...if you expect to get some great little books to add to your Tag library that might AID in mastering basic reading concepts, then you'll be pleased. The Leapfrog site often has all three phonics sets for less than the cost of two at regular retail (just a heads-up!).
